Residential Addition, Berkeley

This project was a significant addition to an existing single family residence. The existing rear wall was to be removed so that the extended kitchen could flow into the new family room. An additional bedroom, bathroom, and new laundry room were also added.

Due to the modifications to the original structure, the addition needed to withstand seismic loads for the majority of the existing structure. Given the desire to maximize window and door openings in the addition, there was relatively little space for plywood sheathing.
